Glen Shirley, age 92 of Underwood, ND, died January 31, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Underwood, ND with the Reverend Dan Voth officiating. Burial will be in the Spring of 2014 at Bethany Cemetery, Robinson, ND. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the church in Underwood. Visitation will continue for 1 hour before the services at the church on Wednesday. Glen was born January 24, 1922 in Robinson, ND, the son of Gunder and Petra (Hanson) Shirley. The second youngest of thirteen children. He grew up on the family farm in Robinson. As a young man, he was involved in the Civilian Conservation Corps. Glen married Ella "Peggy" Shepard on March 26, 1943 in Steele, ND. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed in the Robinson area until 1949. They lived in several different communities where Glen was employed by local grain elevators. In 1956, they moved their family to Underwood. In Underwood, he worked at the farmer's elevator for several years, working well into his 80's. He also worked for many local farmers in his free time. Glen loved to spend time visiting with his family and friends. He loved to joke around with people. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Glen died on January 31, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law: Dean and Brenda Shirley, Elk River, MN; four daughters and sons-in-law: Glenda and Jr. Wallace, Minot, ND, Sharon Meier, Brooklyn Center, MN, Pamela Belile, Dickinson, ND and Debbie and Otto Aldinger, Underwood, ND; twelve grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Price-Geise, Jamestown, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1991; an infant son, Duane; two grandchildren; one great grandson; six sisters and five brothers.
