Obituary
Gladys Norland, age 99 of Bismarck, formerly of the Underwood area, died October 25th, 2011 at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, Oct. 29th at Augustana Lutheran Church in Underwood with Pastor Joel Sherer officiating. Interment will follow at the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery – rural Coleharbor.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to time of service at the church.
Gladys was born August 14, 1912 in Malcolm Township, McLean County, ND, to Jacob & Anna (Knutson) Forland. She attended rural school and later graduated from Turtle Lake High School. She continued her education at the Minot Normal School where she received a teaching certificate. Gladys taught school for six years. On June 2, 1937, she was united in marriage to John Norland of Coleharbor, ND. Together they lived on the Norland farm and raised their family. They moved to Underwood in 1977. Gladys will be remembered for her beautiful quilts. Her family extends a special thank you to the staff of The Terrace in Bismarck where Gladys has resided for the last nine years.
She is survived by two sons, Robert (Cynthia) Norland of Bismarck, & Mike (Janeen) Norland of Williston; one daughter, Gloria Burgard of Phoenix, AZ; 14 grandchildren, Jordan (Brent) Weisenberger of Bismarck, Brady (Erica) Norland of Billings, MT, Jennifer Norland of Minneapolis, MN, Tina Norland of Pittsburgh, PA, Paul (Denise) Norland of Oakland, CA, Brent (Yoolie) Norland of Santa Monica, CA, Teresa (Josh) May of Sherman Oaks, CA, David (Debbie) Burgard of Orlando, FL, Tom (Elizabeth) Burgard of Desert Hills, AZ, Ken (Laura) Burgard of Phoenix, AZ, Michelle (Brad) Burgard of Peoria, AZ, Steve (Lisa) Burgard of Phoenix, AZ, Andrea (Cory) Friesen of Mukilteo, WA, & Dr. Jeff (Becky) Rockwell of Austin, TX; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband (John), one daughter (Gayle Rauh), one son (Don Norland), three brothers (Ralph, John, & Lester Forland), two sisters (Stella Birk & Ruby Britton), & one grandson (Josh Norland).
Memorials are preferred to the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery Fund (C/O P. Hetzler, 1320 24th Ave. NW, Turtle Lake, ND 58575).
