Obituary

Gladys Rothmann-Freidig, age 80 of Bismarck, formerly of Washburn, passed away April 30th, 2013 at a Bismarck hospital.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 4th at First Lutheran Church in Washburn with Pastor Erik Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery, Washburn.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at Goetz Funeral Home in Washburn and continue Saturday, one hour prior to time of service at the church.

Gladys was born April 5, 1933 in Underwood, ND to Reinhold & Helen (Johnson) Goehring. She grew up in Underwood and was confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church. Gladys married Gordon Rothmann and they made their home in Washburn. Together they raised three daughters. Gordon passed away in April 1975.
Gladys was an avid bowler and was proud of her many trophies. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flower beds. Many members of her community benefitted from her sewing skills. Gladys was employed by the hardware stores in Washburn and worked as a cook for the Washburn Public School. Gladys was later employed at the G.R.E. Coal Creek Station near Underwood. She married Anton "Tony" Freidig and they made their home near Hensler, ND. Their years together were spent going to dancing events and attending auction sales. Tony passed away in 1993. Gladys moved back to Washburn for several years before moving to the Edgewood Vista in Bismarck where she resided until her death.

She is survived by three daughters, Rosalind (Leif) Ravnaas of Valley City, Maureen (Lee) Messer of Dickinson, and Glenda Scholl of Washburn; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Janice Blegen of Fridley, MN; brothers-in-law, Ray (Marlyn) Rothmann and Adam Freidig; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Mehrer, Joyce Freidig, & Caryl Goehring; and numerous nieces & nephews.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands (Gordon & Anton), son-in-law (Steve Scholl), brother (Quentin Goehring), two sisters (Luella & Wanda), brother-in-law (William Burrowes), two nephews (Terry Burrowes and Philip Blegen), and a niece (Kimberly Goehring).
