Gerald "Jerry" A. Neff, 82, of Turtle Lake, ND died October 8, 2014 in the Turtle Lake Community Memorial Hospital.
Memorial Services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday October 11, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake, ND with Pastor Sondra Krogstad officiating.
Gerald was born September 20, 1932 on a farm near McClusky, ND the son of Charles A. and Minnie (Wentz) Neff. He attended country school and The McClusky High School. Gerald married Loretta Schock on September 19, 1954 at Peace Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake. He was also baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church. He was currently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. As a young man, Gerald worked for the Sheridan County Soil Conservation. He was also a heavy equipment operator for the Glen Herald Mine. Gerald was employed with the McLean County Highway Department where he maintained the roads. He retired in August of 1997 with 25 years of dedicated service to the residents in the Turtle Lake area.
Gerald had many hobbies including welding, woodworking and fishing. His talents lead him to make his son-in-law a smoker and numerous picture frames. He also made a cupboard and rocking horse for his granddaughter. He was always willing to give to others with his time and the items he made. The hobby he enjoyed the most was fishing. People knew the fishing was good by how long his old green and white van sat in one place.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Loretta; daughter Vikki Neff-Tolbert (Joel Johnson); granddaughter DeAndra (Brandon) Viellieux; great grandson Aden Villieux all of Turtle Lake; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clifford (Marvel) Neff of McClusky, ND and Roger "Max" (Lorraine) Neff of Bismarck, ND and numerous other brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law, Alex and Martha Schock, a son-in-law Glen Tolbert, a sister Shirley Reiser, and brothers-in-law Arlie Reiser, Meinhardt Schock, Delmer Krein and three nephews.
