G. Bernie Thompson, age 59 of Pick City, ND, died Friday, November 25th, 2011 at a Bismarck hospital.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, Nov. 30th at Trinity Lutheran Church, southwest of Pick City, with Pastor Dean Hartley officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to time of service at the church.
George "Bernie" Thompson was born March 20, 1952 in White Earth, ND to Harley "Bud" & Mayme Thompson. He lived in White Earth until the age of ten when his family moved to Lakota, ND. He graduated from high school in Lakota and attended one year of college in Devils Lake. As a young man, Bernie owned B&B Bar with his buddy "Beat", worked for area farmers, house movers, and a builder. In 1978, he joined the Labor Union 563 and worked as a General Laborer for several power plants in ND, MN, and Washington state. Bernie married Mathilda "Tilly" Barnhardt-Carsen on August 12, 1983 in Underwood. Bernie and Tillie enjoyed sightseeing while he worked in Minnesota and Washington. They enjoyed traveling to places such as Wendover, Nevada and most recently enjoyed an Alaskan cruise. Bernie retired at the age of 54 due to health reasons. He spent his retirement years driving around the area looking at wildlife, playing pinochle, hunting, fishing, and relaxing on his buddies Gene & Laverne's pontoon.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Tilly Thompson of Pick City; two step-daughters, Lynn Bell (friend Ray Aarseth) of Pick City, & Carol Carsen of Bismarck; his grandbabies, Dallas Carsen, Savannah, Aneasha, & Chance Love, and Kayla Spangler; five brothers, Pat (Susie) of Minnesota, James Lehman of California, Harley (Bonnie) of Minnesota, Tom of Utah, & Richard of Alaska; three sisters, Winnie Tangen of ND, Janice (Larry) Thompson of Washington state, & Myrtle Lehman of Montana; numerous nieces & nephews; and many friends.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, brothers (John & Jerry), sisters (Mary Franzen, Eileen Smith, Stella Whales), one step-son (Russell Carsen), grandson (Dustin Bruce), and his little girl "Pee-Wee" (the dog).
