George Anderson, age 88 of Underwood, ND, formerly of Napoleon and Bismarck, ND, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 7, 2006. He passed away at the Prairieview Nursing Home in Underwood.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Friday, August 11, 2006 at Augustana Lutheran Church in Underwood, with the Rev. Dan Maurer, Officiating.
Interment of cremains will be held at the Coleharbor Cemetery.
George Carlyle Louis Anderson was born April 17, 1918 at Bismarck, ND the son to George Alfred Anderson & Bertha (Graalum) Anderson. He attended school in Coleharbor and graduated from Coleharbor High School in 1936. He continued his education at the Minot Business College before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1942. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged following World War II. George married Marian Kaiser on November 25, 1943 in Fargo, ND. After his military service, he attended North Dakota State University earning a degree in economics and a teaching certificate. In 1948, he started farming on his grandfather's (Louis Anderson) farm and was also employed as Principal of the Coleharbor School for several years. He later worked as a bookkeeper for the E.V. Lane Construction Co. during the construction phase of the Garrison Dam. In 1957, George returned to teaching and taught Math and English at schools in Underwood, Butte, ND and Napoleon, ND until his retirement in 1981. George and Marian lived in Napoleon for many years and enjoyed spending 20 winters in Brownsville, Texas. They moved to the Waterford of Bismarck in November 2004. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Garrison and the American Legion Post 72 of Napoleon. He enjoyed reading and going fishing. George will be remembered for his kind, gentle spirit and his willingness to help anyone in need. He loved people, but most of all, he loved his family and they felt his love dearly.
He is survived by his loving Wife, Marian Anderson of Bismarck, ND; 4 Daughters, Maureen (Tom) Schultz of Sioux Falls, SD, Gayla (John) Schatz of Napoleon, ND, Marsha Doerr of Hayden, ID, & Mary Jo (Al) Ness of Underwood, ND; Daughter-in-law, Paulette Anderson of Bismarck, ND; 1 Son, Greg (Linda) Anderson of Peoria, AZ;
15 Grandchildren & 14 Great-Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son (Mark L. Anderson), & 1 sister (Myrtle).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Coleharbor Cemetery, the Underwood Public Swimming Pool, or the Napoleon School Gymnasium Renovation Fund.
