Obituary
Gene Hofer, age 71 of Turtle Lake, ND died Sunday, October 10, 2010 at a Bismarck hospital.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, Oct. 13th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake with Pastor Betty J. Stedman officiating.
Burial will be in the Turtle Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at Goetz Funeral Home in Turtle Lake with a family service beginning at 7:00 PM.
Gene was born on July 28th, 1939 to Martin and Mathilda (Geohring) Hofer in Miles City, Montana. He graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1958. He married Elaine Forland in 1962 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church of rural Turtle Lake. They resided the majority of their years in Turtle Lake. Gene attended the Fargo Molar Barber College in 1963. Gene managed a local barber shop in Turtle Lake for many years along with farming with his dad, Martin Hofer. Gene & Elaine were blessed with one daughter, Kim, and one son, Kory. He also worked at Great River Energy for 14 years. He drove school bus for the Turtle Lake School District where his love for children shined. He was a member and council member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Turtle Lake Credit Union for 25 years. He also served on numerous other boards and organizations.
Gene enjoyed the camaraderie of family and friends year round but especially during hunting season. He loved all animals, but held a special love for his cattle and horses. He was known for his storytelling abilities. Gene will be greatly missed by the Forland families: Joanne, Les, Wendy, Judy, Curt, Janet, Hank and their families. There is no end to the list of people who Gene treated as family. Stories are bountiful, memories are precious, smiles were endless, and friendships were priceless. Gene was a wonderful son, husband, dad, grandpa, uncle and friend. He will be sincerely missed by ALL.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Hofer of Turtle Lake; one daughter & son-in-law, Kim & Bill Erdmann and their children Jordan & Joshua of Bismarck, ND; one son & daughter-in-law, Kory & CoCo Hofer and their children Zakory & MaKena of Montevideo, MN; and his mom, Mathilda "Tillie" Hofer of Garrison, ND.
Gene was preceded in death by his dad (Martin).
