Garry Eugene Flemmer, 84, passed away on June 16th, 2024 at Turtle Lake Community Memorial Hospital. He was a testament to hard work, dedication, and unwavering love for his family.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, June 21, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake with Pastor Sondra Krogstad officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior at the church. Burial will follow the memorial service in the Turtle Lake Cemetery.
Garry was delivered by a midwife in a house in Turtle Lake on October 6th, 1939, to Phillip and Hilda Flemmer. He was raised and educated in Turtle Lake. He attended the rural Newhome school until 6th grade and graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1957.
On November 15th, 1968, amid a snowstorm, he married Betty Brown. They had two daughters, whom they reared on the family farm southeast of Turtle Lake. They farmed and ranched until 1998.
Garry and Betty ran G&B Lounge in Mercer from 1981 to 1994, as well as farming and ranching. This endeavor led to many lifelong friendships. After retiring from the farm, Garry worked for Lindteigen Construction and South McLean Soil Conservation.
Garry was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the North Dakota Stockman's Association, and the North Dakota Farmers Union.
His joy was watching sports. He loved watching his grandsons play and made every game possible. He was an avid Twins and Vikings fan, so he was used to disappointment. His other pastime was playing cards. He spent many hours playing cards and telling stories.
Garry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty of Turtle Lake; daughters Diane and her son Garrin of Fargo, ND; Lesley (Jeramie Love) and her sons, Hunter (Ellie – the granddaughter he always wanted and finally got on July 1st, 2023) of Turtle Lake, Trapper (Taysha) of Mandan ND, and Gunner (Kaitlyn) of Bismarck ND. Three brothers-in-law, Eugene (Susan) Brown and Dale (Georgia) Brown of Fargo, ND, and Gary Reile of Bismarck, ND. One sister-in-law, Vicky (Jerry)Boyer, also of Fargo, ND. 8 nieces, Barb (Pat) Hallman of Lakewood, CO, Kim (Greg) Ehli of Bismarck, ND, Teresa Brown, Stacy (Greg) Dawkins, Ivy (Brad) Jacobson, and Paige Boyer, all of Fargo, Ann Brown-Domholt of Portland OR, and Caitlyn Boyer of Grand Forks, ND. Many great nieces and nephews. His love for his family was unwavering, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Hilda Flemmer; his Father and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Emma Brown; brother, Meinhardt Flemmer; two sisters-in-law, Colleen Flemmer and Donna Reile; and one niece, Brenda Flemmer.
