Frieda was born June 25th, 1924 to Peter and Margaret (Bittner) Hoff at the family farmstead north of Washburn, ND. Before going to school, her dad taught her to read and write. Her love of learning continued as she completed two grades in one year and finished the eighth grade at the age of twelve. While too young for high school, she took classes through correspondence. While attending Washburn High School she stayed with families in town, working for her room and board. She graduated from Washburn High School in 1942. She then attended Capitol Commercial College in Bismarck. This led her to her first job at the AAA (Triple A) Office in Garrison. She later moved to Turtle Lake to work in Andersgords Department Store as a sales clerk. It was there that she helped a young farmer, Ed Orman, purchase a pair of shoes. This encounter led to their marriage on November 10, 1944 at the First Lutheran parsonage in Washburn. Ed and Frieda started their life together farming grain and raising cattle. They retired from farming in 1980. They moved to Turtle Lake where they enjoyed many years of happy retirement. Together they enjoyed taking Farmers Union bus trips and playing cards with friends. In the fall of 2008, Ed and Frieda moved to Valley View Assisted Living in Bismarck. After 64 years of marriage, Ed passed away on June 21, 2009. Frieda then moved to the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center where she was very lonely without Ed. In 1967, Frieda started working as a nurse's aide at the Community Memorial Hospital in Turtle Lake. She truly loved helping patients and her fellow co-workers. Frieda was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she served on the church council and was involved with the Ladies Circle. She was involved with Homemakers, Farmers Union, and Senior Citizens. Her dedication to her family found her spending many hours at her children's and grandchildren's activities. As a farm wife she spent many hours keeping the farmyard neat. She worked in the garden (canning much of her produce) and kept the farm buildings freshly painted. She loved the farm animals, naming every cat and dog. Frieda was a woman ahead of her time logging many hours of scrap booking. She put together photo albums for every child and grandchild. Reading was a passion for her, checking out many books from the Turtle Lake Library. Many family gatherings were treated to a roaster full of Frieda's delicious "pigs-in-the–blanket". Frieda also enjoyed making strudel for children and grandchildren.

Frieda is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Gary (Linda) of Sartell, MN, Gene of Chaska, MN; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail (Tim) Horner, & Gwen (Bob) Horner of Bismarck; 12 grandchildren, Mike (Connie) Orman, Nicole Schumacher, Chris (Crystal) Orman, Corey Orman, Sarah Orman, Natalie (Ryan) Koch, Nathan, Nick, Kate, Rose, Emily and Molly Horner; 6 great grandchildren, Taylor and Reese Orman, Kaitlyn Orman, Jacob, Carter and Luke Schumacher.

Frieda is greeted in heaven by her husband Ed, her parents, 2 sisters, Emma (Kurt) Darr, & Esther (Orris) Albertson; 4 brothers, Albert, Emil, Art, & Alvin Hoff; and her granddaughter Nicole's husband Jason Schumacher.

Frieda was a strong Christian woman who had a great love for God, life, and family. She will be greatly missed. Her family would like to thank the caregivers at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center for their terrific care.
