Fred Rath, 93, of Turtle Lake, ND, died July 6, 2022 at CHI St. Alexius Hospital, Bismarck, ND.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake, ND with Pastor Russ Lambert officiating.  Burial will be in the Turtle Lake Cemetery with military rites provided by the Turtle Lake American Legion.

Fred was born on November 7, 1928 at Benedict, ND, the son of Henry and Margaret (Seidler) Rath.  He was raised in the benedict area where he attended rural schools.   On October 28, 1956, he married Dorothy Schumaier in Garrison.  Together they made their home in Turtle Lake for over sixty years.

In 1951 Fred served our country in the US Army during the Korean War and after coming home, he joined the American Legion.  He remained a member for over 70 years and was given a membership reward for his service.  Fred helped build missile sites in Montana and Nebraska before moving back to Turtle Lake where he worked for Lindteigen Construction until his retirement.  Fred loved fishing, camping and traveling in his motorhome with Dorothy often visiting friends and family as far away as California and Arizona.

Fred is survived by 2 daughters:  Norma (Mike) Kendersi of Mesa, AZ and Jane Gutknecht of Washburn; grandchildren:  Bowen Gutknecht and Brea (Charles) Tatum; great grandchildren:  Roosevelt Gutknecht, Kimberly, Harlow, Joshua and Jacob Tatum; many special friends, especially Jimmy Blotter.

Fred is the last surviving child of Henry and Margaret Rath.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy; infant son, Richard; son-in-law, Kim Gutknech; his parents; eleven siblings:  Christ, Martha, Emil, Ed, Herbert, Bertha, Regina, Lorraine, John, Anna and Tillie.

There is not enough room to say how much he was loved.

The family would like to thank the community of Turtle Lake and the Turtle Lake American Legion for all the love and support given to Fred and Dorothy throughout the years.  Your kindness will never be forgotten!
