Frank Martin, age 90 of Washburn, ND died Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at the Prairieview Nursing Home in Underwood.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM Monday, August 10 at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church in Underwood. Rev. Frank J. Schuster, celebrant
Interment at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Cemetery
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Sunday at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service.
Francis Frank Martin was born April 27, 1919 at Fort Rice, ND to Pius & Barbara (Kary) Martin. He was raised in Fort Rice and attended rural school. Frank married Aleda Yunker on December 19, 1939 at the Methodist parsonage in Washburn. They made their home in Hensler, ND for a short time before moving to Cut Bank, MT where he worked for an area rancher. They returned to the Washburn/Underwood area and Frank was drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1945. Frank served with the U.S. Navy Seabees in the Pacific Theatre of World War II. He was honorably discharged in January 1946. Frank returned to Underwood where he owned and operated Martin's Welding & Repair for many years. He joined the I.B.E.W. in 1960 and worked as a lineman until his retirement in 1981. Frank's favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing. He was a member of St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church and a past-Commander of the Underwood V.F.W. Post.
He is survived his loving wife on nearly 70 years, Aleda Martin of Washburn; son & daughter-in-law, Francis James "Jim" & Marg Martin of Underwood; daughter & son-in-law, Ruby Jane & Denny Portra of Underwood; son-in-law, Mike Wilson of Pella, IA; 11 grandchildren & 23 great-grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two children (Barbara A. & Franklin P.), five brothers, three sisters, one grandson, & one granddaughter-in-law.
