Obituary

Frances Kvamme, age 88 of rural Ruso, ND died Saturday, May 14, 2011 at her home.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, May 18th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake with Pastor Curtis Hanson officiating. Interment will follow at the Turtle Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Goetz Funeral Home in Turtle Lake.

Marie Frances Kvamme was born August 18, 1922 near Turtle Lake, ND to Reinhold & Marie (Braun) Sackman. She attended the rural Veeder School and graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1940. Frances continued her education at Minot State College for two years and received a Standard Degree in Teaching. She taught at various country schools in McLean County, the Butte Public School, and Turtle Lake Public School. Frances also worked as a typesetter at the McLean County Journal in Turtle Lake for several years. On October 22, 1944 she was united in marriage to Sievert Alfred Kvamme. They purchased a farm in Horseshoe Valley Township, south of Ruso, ND, where she lived until her death. She enjoyed the last 37 winters residing in Arizona. Frances was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Ruso until it closed. She later became a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Benedict and was active with W.E.L.C.A. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, and visiting with friends and family. Frances was a member of the Farm Bureau and the McLean County Republicans.

She is survived by her son, Roger Kvamme of Ruso; daughter, Sharon (Harold) Neurohr of Halliday; two granddaughters, Lisa Flanagan of Mandan & Kari (Bruce) Pennington of Bismarck; five great-grandsons, Tanner, Taylor, & Trevor Pennington, and Justin & Nathan Flanagan; three sisters, Violet (Merlin) Nelson of Bismarck, Alice (Jack) Wiese of Washburn, & Janice (Melroy) Syverson of New Smyrna Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Shirley Sackman of Rapid City, SD; one brother & sister-in-law, Leland (Betty) Kvamme of Lakeland, FL; a special friend & goddaughter, Clarice Sheeler; and many nieces & nephews

Frances was preceded in death by her husband Sievert (in 1994), parents, one sister (Helen), one brother (Berthold), and a nephew (Alan Kvamme).
