Obituary

Florence L. Brown, 96 of Bismarck, ND, formerly of Washburn, ND, died Friday, November 30, 2007 at a Bismarck hospital.

Funeral Services: 2:00 PM Monday, Dec. 3, 2007;
United Methodist Church – Washburn, ND;
Rev. Galen Kauffman, Officiating;

Interment: Riverview Cemetery – Washburn;

Visitation will be held from 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM Monday at the church.

Florence was born February 27, 1911 to Joseph & Sophia (Youngquist) Barlow at the Youngquist homestead in Conklin Township, west of Washburn, ND. She attended rural school in Conklin and graduated from Washburn High School in 1930. Florence attended the Capital Commercial College in Bismarck for one year. She began working as a secretary for the McLean County Extension Agent and several other McLean county offices in 1930. Florence married John Raymond Brown on November 3, 1932 in Washburn. Together they farmed west of Washburn and raised three children. She began working for the McLean County Register of Deeds office in 1954 and retired in 1976. One year prior to her retirement, her and Ray moved into Washburn. Ray died in 1988. Florence continued living in Washburn until 2000 when she moved to Bismarck. She resided The Terrace for 4 ½ years and became a resident of the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in 2005. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Washburn, the Sakakawea Homemakers Club, the Eastern Star, and the Lewis & Clark Senior Center. Florence enjoyed sewing, gardening, traveling, camping, fishing, and square dancing. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her six grandchildren.

Florence is survived by one son, Dr. Eddie J. (Amanda) Brown of Port Huron, MI and their children David (Daretta) Brown and Kimberly Brown; two daughters, Karen Werner of Fargo, ND and her daughter Tana (Douglas) Erbes, LaBette (Richard) Peterson of Bismarck, ND and their children Cassie (Les) Geithman, Chad (Barbi Weigand) Peterson, & Clinton (Samantha) Peterson; 14 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister (Iva Swanson),
and son-in-law (Clayton Werner).
