Evelyn Freeberg-Nelson, age 94 of McClusky, formerly of Mercer, died January 22, 2012 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Turtle Lake. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 P.M. Thursday, Jan. 26th at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mercer with Pastor Randy Emgarten officiating. Burial will follow at the Mercer Hillside Cemetery.
A remembrance service will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday at the church.

Evelyn was born in Byersville Township, McLean Co., ND, on December 23, 1917 to Knute & Lydia (Krause) Norberg. She graduated from Butte High School in 1935. She married Conrad Freeberg on November 15, 1939. They owned and operated the Mercer Cash Store, including an exchange at the North Country Bank in McClusky, until Conrad's death in 1967. Evelyn continued to run the store and took great joy in offering it as a place for friends and strangers to meet for coffee & socializing until its closing in 1983. Evelyn married Lloyd Nelson on November 22, 1984 in Minot. Evelyn lived her faith by example. She was a compassionate and caring person who befriended all who came into her life. She entered the Sheridan Memorial Home in McClusky in the spring of 2010 where she enjoyed each day until her passing.

She is survived by four daughters, Conni (Gary) Gonser of Fargo, ND, Lynn Van Vleet of Surrey, Pam Lill of Mercer, & Elizabeth (Randy) Anderson of Turtle Lake; daughter-in-law, Eve Freeberg of Grand Forks; step-son, Mick Nelson of Minot; grandchildren & great-grandchildren, Dawn (David) Espindola and their children Kayla and Andre, of Eden Prairie, MN; Ginger (Jahmal Wineglass) Sajiera and daughter Anais of Hadley, MA; Jennifer (Chris) Songstad and their children Dalton and Hadley, of Moorhead, MN; Scott (Pam) Van Vleet and their children Cameron and Alexis, of North Aurora, IL; Mitchell (Staci) Van Vleet and their children Halie, Samuel, & Karli, of West Fargo; Stephanie (John) Miller and their children Emmy and Jake, of Bismarck; Tonia (Chad) Lindeman and their children Kaia, Gavin, & Kambrin, of Bismarck; Kate (Jeff) Hanson and their children Aiden, Ethan, & Kenzee, of Turtle Lake, ND; Marc (Jessica) Anderson and their children Jaxin & Quinn, of Minot; and Marin Anderson of Rolette; two sisters, Ruth Ryckman of Linton, & Dorothy (Ken) Stuberg of Leeds; brother-in-law, Ed Lakoduk of Fargo; sister-in-law, Phyllis Thompson of Coral Gables, FL; many nieces and nephews & many special friends who were very dear to her heart.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husbands, Conrad Freeberg and Lloyd Nelson; one son, Bob Freeberg; sons-in-law, Tony Lill and Marvin Van Vleet; one sister, Gladys Lakoduk; & one brother-in-law, Don Ryckman.
