Euni Dockter, 69, of Bismarck, formerly of Mercer, passed away at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck on November 24th. A funeral service will be held at 10:30am Monday, November 30th at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake, ND, with Pastor Sondra Krogstad officiating. Burial will follow at the Turtle Lake Cemetery.
Eunice Faye was born October 4, 1946 to Oliver and Elnora (Nissen) Kirking in Drayton, North Dakota. She attended Glasston Elementary School and graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1964. While in school, Euni was very involved in all school activities, especially cheerleading.
Following high school she attended the Minneapolis Institute of Medical Technology, graduating as a medical lab technician. She worked at the Grafton Hospital and later at Deaconess Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
In November of 1965, Euni met Gene Dockter (Doc) in St. Thomas, when she was home for the first basketball game of the season and Doc was a first year English teacher at the school. They were married August 3, 1968 at United Methodist Church in Drayton, ND. That same year they moved to Sauk Centre, MN where Doc taught and Euni worked full time as assistant to the athletic director and part time supervisor of study halls. She also worked with the dance team and girls gymnastics. While in Sauk Centre, they created some of the best memories and friendships which still hold dear to their hearts.
In 1975, one of the greatest gifts was given to Euni and Doc when their son Jonathan became a member of the family. In 1977, they moved near Mercer, ND to farm and ranch. In 1980, their family was blessed once again with the addition of Kimberly. Euni was very involved in the Turtle Lake & Mercer communities. She served as president of the local Jayceette's chapter and was voted one of 25 outstanding presidents in the United States. She was also a member of the GFWC Study Club in Turtle Lake. Euni helped to start Story Hour at the local library, served on the Trinity Lutheran Church council for four years, volunteered at Turtle Lake-Mercer school, and was always helping with events her children were involved with at church and school. She taught Sunday School, Bible School, and Confirmation for many years, even after her children were no longer involved.
In 2002, they rented out their farm and Euni kept busy volunteering, especially with the God's Child Project where she served on the board for several years. With the Project, she traveled to Antigua & Guatemala three times where she helped build homes and distribute clothing to people in need.
In 2012, Euni and Doc bought a home in Bismarck where they were welcomed with great and caring new friends. They have enjoyed being closer to their grandchildren and spending many hours pontooning on the Missouri River.
Euni had an outstanding personality and left a good impression on everyone she met. Through all of her health problems, she never once complained or felt sorry for herself. Euni took pride in her job as a stay-at-home mother to her children and felt blessed that she was able to be there for them during their formative years. She was also integral in the lives of her grandchildren, helping whenever needed- shopping, baking, and spending quality time with them at every opportunity.
Euni will be remembered for her smile, friendly demeanor, and willingness to help whenever needed.
Euni is survived by her husband of 47 years, Doc, Bismarck; son Jonathan, Chicago; daughter Kimberly (Joey), Bismarck; grandchildren, Kennedy, Kamryn, and Jack (Bismarck); Brothers, Neil (Pat) Kirking, Arizona, Curt (Mary Ellen) Kirking, Cavalier, ND; Sisters- In- Law, JoAnn (Erv) Johnson, Minot, Jan (Erv) Geigle, Minneapolis, MN, Joyce (Dennis) Fiedler, Mercer, ND; Nieces and Nephews, Jennifer, Erin, Chad, Barry, Maria, Julia, Solomon, and Andrew; Step- grandchildren, Kalan and Nolan
