Ethel M Barnick, 85, Washburn, ND, died Sept. 29, 2013 in a Bismarck hospital.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Friday October 4, 2013 at the Washburn Baptist Church with Pastor Rick Torkelson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn and will continue one hour before services on Friday at the church.
Interment will be held in the Riverview Cemetery, Washburn, ND
Ethel was born January 30, 1928 in Harvey, ND, the daughter of Everett and Olga (Anderson) Cash. She attended school in Harvey, Velva and Towner. Ethel graduated from the Towner High School in 1946. She worked at the Red Owl Store in Velva. She moved to San Diego, CA in 1946 where she married John Hales and to this marriage a daughter Kathy was born. John and Ethel divorced and she moved to Washburn where her father was a police officer. Ethel married Theodore "Ted" Barnick on April 10, 1951 in Moorhead, MN. They owned and operated the first John Deere dealership in Washburn. Ted and Ethel also farmed near Washburn and Max. The dealership burned down in the 1970's. They continued to farm until retiring in the 1990's.
Ethel was a member of the Washburn Baptist Church where she served in many capacities. She was also a member of the Sakakawea Homemakers Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Dean) Dietz of Washburn, ND; a daughter-in-law, Elaine Barnick of Washburn; a son-in-law, Gary Sweckard of Duluth, MN; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; one brother, Everett Ray (Donna) Cash of Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Ted) in 1998, son Jay Barnick, daughter Nancy Sweckard, brother Russell Cash, and a sister Doris Dietrich.
