Obituary

Ernest "Ernie" Elmer Slagg, 95, formerly of Washburn, ND died December 7, 2022 at the Knife River Care Center in Beulah where he had been a resident since May of 2019.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 12, 2022 at Goetz Funeral Home in Washburn with Pastor Kayla Buckley officiating.  Interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery, Washburn.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Ernest was born on March 19, 1927 to Ernest & Ella Slagg (Doepke).  He was raised with his brothers and sisters west of Washburn on the family farm.

Ernie graduated from Washburn High School in 1945.  He entered the US Army after graduation and went to Fort Knox in Kentucky for training.  He then was transferred to Fort Sheridan in Illinois.  With the conclusion of World War II, Ernest returned to North Dakota and started his career in farming.  His first tractor was an Oliver built Cockshutt tractor.  He raised wheat, flax, barley, and oats.

Ernie had a fascination of cars.  His first car was a 1949 Oldsmobile convertible.

Ernie's knack of making you laugh with his one liners will be sorely missed.  One of his financial advisors said he sounded like W.C. Fields on the telephone.

He is survived by his sisters, Adeline Slagg of Beulah and Carolyn Currier of Seattle, Washington and many nieces and nephews.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elda Baasch(Drath) and brothers, Wallace, Marvin and Lawrence.
