Ernest Houser, 74, of Bismarck, ND, died October 6, 2023 at his residence.  Visitation will be held on Friday October 13, 2023 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn.  A memorial service will be held in the spring/summer of 2024.

Ernie was born July 10, 1949, to Ernest and Orabella (Zuck) Houser in Great Lodge, MT. He was raised in Coleharbor till the age of ten with his mom and siblings. From there on he resided in Grafton, ND until 1984 and he was baptized during his time in Grafton. When Ernie moved to Bismarck, he found his lifelong home at Enable where he lived, worked, and made many friends and family. He attended a sheltered vocational training center through Hit Inc. He worked by peeling potatoes, delivering orders and other contract work such as stuffing envelopes and shredding paper. Ernie has been fully retired and he has been able to enjoy his life with family and friends. Ernie entered guardianship with Catholic charities on September 20, 2002 where they helped guide Ernie in his life journey.

Ernie loved to go outside for walks with his red wagon, gardening and enjoying his retirement with his family and peers. One of his favorite things to do was going on rides in a truck, sunglasses glasses on, wallet, and a coke bottle in hand and hat to follow with smiles ear to ear. Ernie loved spending time with family throughout the years. He was always beaming with excitement, fully packed waiting at the door for the trip home for the weekend and holidays.

Ernie was one of a kind and has touched so many hearts through the years including his family, staff at Enable and his roommates just to name a few. He will always be remembered for his ability to love anyone, bring such joy and happiness to everyone and most of all his stubbornness.

Ernie was survived by his brother Orval Houser from Coleharbor, ND and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents Orabella and Ernest; brothers, Conrad and Rodney Houser; sisters, Jeannie and Rachel.
