Emma was born October 9, 1915, south of Mercer, ND, the daughter to Fred and Lydia (Kleingartner) Gaub. She attended country schools near the family farmstead and worked for the Fred Freeberg family performing household duties. As a young woman, she moved to California and was employed as a waitress for several years. While living in California she met Floyd White, who was her sister's brother-in-law. Emma and Floyd were united in marriage on June 30, 1942 in Reno, Nevada. They returned to North Dakota and purchased land east of Mercer, ND in Sheridan County. They lived and ranched there until 1968 when they sold their land and relocated near Wilton, ND. Along with the relocation, they began spending winter months in Apache Junction, Arizona. In 1983, they moved into Wilton where they built a home. Floyd White, her husband of 44 years, passed away in November 1986. Following Floyd's death, she continued to make her home in Wilton and spend the winter months in Arizona. Emma served as a 4-H leader, a local Homemakers Club member, and a Wilton & Mercer Study Club member. She later became a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Wilton Senior Center. Emma enjoyed entertaining family and friends and is remembered for her birthday cakes and special recipes. A woman of German-Russian descent, her homemade buns, bread, strudla, and fleischkuechla were a delicacy for anyone coming to her home. Emma's garden was an important part of her life, she especially enjoyed growing strawberries and raspberries. During the winter months, she tatted, embroidered, and crocheted. She enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with family and friends, and especially cherished time with her sister, Lorraine, and her family. Emma never missed a chance to go to the Seven Seas in Mandan for an anniversary or birthday party. Although Floyd and Emma never had any children of their own, the neighbor kids and their nieces and nephews recognized the love they shared for children. Emma lived as an example of God's love.

She leaves her sister, Lorraine (Joe) Schon of Mercer, ND; her sister-in-law, Opal White of Lewiston, ID; several nieces and nephews; & many great nieces & great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband (Floyd), parents, sisters & brothers-in-law (Ida & John Schell, Lydia & William White, Sr., Olga & Edwin Bossert, Edna & Eugene Hinsz), brother & sister-in-law (Herbert & Martha Gaub).
