Emma was born on July 29. 1915 to William & Magdalena (Wanner) Bauer at rural Coleharbor, ND. At a young age, she moved with her family to a farm south of Mercer, ND. Emma attended Mercer Public School through the eighth grade. She married Emil Fischer on October 17, 1935 at Zion Lutheran Church, south of Mercer, ND. Together they farmed and ranched eleven miles southwest of Mercer and raised their family. They moved to Turtle Lake in 1950 where they resided until returning to the farm in 1960. After their retirement, she and Emil moved to Turtle Lake where they lived until Emil's death on November 30, 1997. Emma then lived with her oldest son, Fredrick, and his wife Rose on their farm south of Mercer. After suffering a stroke in August 2007, she became a resident of the Community Memorial Hospital swing-bed.

Emma enjoyed gardening, baking, and was an excellent seamstress. She sewed numerous amounts of clothing for herself and her family, often times without the use of a pattern. For many years, she worked alongside her husband in the field and milked cows. Emma served as an organist at Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed singing in the church choir.

Those fortunate to have shared in her life are her five children, Fredrick (Rose) Fischer of Mercer, Donna McClintock of Sparta, MO, Melvin (Karen) Fischer of Bismarck, and twins Darlene (Kenny) Lasher of McClusky, & Doris Wall of Mercer; eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, & two great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Elizabeth Laib of Bismarck, Frieda (Irvin) Hultin of Minot, & Martha (Norman) Hoppe of Underwood; as well as many nieces & nephews.
