Emil Berg, age 86 of Underwood, ND passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Prairieview Nursing Home in Underwood.
Funeral Services: 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 30, 2008;
Augustana Lutheran Church – Underwood;
Rev. Joel Sherer, Officiating.
Interment: Birka Lutheran Cemetery – rural Washburn, ND
Visitation: 4:00 PM – 7:30 PM Tuesday at Goetz Funeral Home – Underwood;
Wednesday, one hour prior to time of service at the church.
Emil was born January 28, 1922 at rural Turtle Lake, ND the son to Christ & Lydia (Schauer) Berg. He attended school in Turtle Lake and later enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps during World War II. Emil worked on the construction phase of the Garrison Dam for several years. He married Marion Gradin on April 1, 1945 at the Birka Lutheran Church. They farmed and ranched in the Turtle Lake and Underwood area for many years. Emil also operated the road blade for the McLean County Highway Department. He and Marion retired from the farm and moved into Underwood in August 1999. He became a resident of Prairieview Nursing Home in October 2004. Emil's family and friends knew him as a very kind, honest, and generous person that was always willing to help people. He touched our hearts and left us many wonderful memories.
He is survived by two sons, Steve (Ellen) Berg of Underwood, & Mike (fiancé Melva) Berg of Underwood; three daughters, Julie Love of Bismarck, Kathy (Leo) Anderson of Underwood, & Marcia (Dale) Blotske of Underwood; two foster children, Kathy Everett of Williston, ND & Cornelius Everett of White Shield, ND; 13 grandchildren, Kimberly (Michael) Reiner, Michael (Kristin) Love, Steven (Nicki) Anderson, Chad (Jennifer) Berg, Sheldon Berg, Kip (Jodi) Blotske, Jaime (Heith) Pochant, Cortney Anderson and friend Jenna, Stephanie (Cody) Neff, Brady Blotske, Sarah Blotske, Shanna Blotske, & Jennifer Berg; 22 great grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Joshua, & Jacob Reiner, Kelsey & Mason Love, Garrett, Gunnar, & Gracie Anderson, Jayden & Jewell Berg, Caitlyn, Chailee, Callie, & Chloe Berg, Carter & Sydney Neff, Justin Pochant, Karsen, Kaleb, & Ava Blotske, Lexus Anderson; four brothers, Melvin (Agnes) Berg of Underwood, Milton (Joyce) Berg of Minot, Art (Mary Jo) Berg of Fargo, Larry Berg of West Fargo; three sisters, Sylvia Schmidt of Shelby, MT, Delores (Art) Sailor of Oregon state, Verdean Hofer of Fessenden, ND; sisters-in-law, Beverly Wenger of Pipestone, MN, Donna Bartsch of Minot, & Nota Berg of Gettysburg, SD; many nieces & nephews; and a special friend, Helen Mosbrucker of Underwood.
Emil was preceded in death by his parents, wife (Marion), son (Wayne), son-in-law (Eugene Love), daughter-in-law (Denise Berg), and 3 brothers (Laverne, Dale, & Delmar).
