Eleanor L. Anderson, 94, of Bismarck, formerly of Turtle Lake & Mercer, ND, died October 1, 2017 at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 4 th at the Goetz Funeral Home Chapel in Washburn with Pastor Steve Vetter officiating. Interment will follow in the Our Savior's Cemetery, north of Mercer, ND.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to time of service at the funeral home.
Eleanor was born May 25, 1923 near Mercer, ND to Fredrick J. and Lydia Christensen where she grew up and attended school. She worked in Minneapolis and attended the Theo School of Music. On August 26, 1943, she married Emil T. Anderson in Denver, CO. They made their home in Turtle Lake for 5 years and then moved to Washington State until 1952 when they returned to Turtle Lake. In 1966, Eleanor and her husband Emil along with her brother Curtis became farming and ranching partners when purchasing her father's homestead located north of Mercer. They retired in 1981 and moved back to Turtle Lake in 1989.
Eleanor was a gifted woman who held a great talent of writing poetry. She was an artist, a collector of genealogy history, photos, and antiques. She also loved working in her garden of flowers and trying out new recipes. She enjoyed playing her piano, even entertaining residents while she resided at the nursing home. She was not only a lovely mother who valued her family, but a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in law, Randolph and Marlys of Mercer, Carmen and Sharon of Turtle Lake, Mike and MaryAnn of Mercer; two daughters, Gwen Schmidt of Bismarck and Ellen Anderson of Bismarck; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Grace (Ervin) Sackman of Kansas and Joyce Lloyd of California; and a sister-in-law, Betty Christensen-Blue Earth of South Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, nine brothers and sisters, and one infant daughter (Dee Ann).
