Eileen F. Gutknecht, age 80 of Bismarck, ND entered her heavenly home May 21, 2009 while a resident of the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, May 28 at Century Baptist Church in Bismarck, with Pastor Gordon Stork, officiating.
Following a fellowship lunch at the church, inurnment will take place at the Underwood Cemetery where her ashes will be buried near her husband and two sons.
Eileen was born on July 1, 1928 at Makoti, ND. She attended school in Coleharbor, ND and graduated from Underwood High School. Eileen continued her education at Minot State College for two years before her marriage to Herbert Gutknecht of Hazen, ND on December 21, 1947. Eileen & Herb lived in Underwood until moving to Harvey, ND in 1958 where they owned and operated the Travelers Motel and Standard Oil Station from 1961 to 1974. In 1974, she moved to Bismarck and started her career as an executive housekeeper at the Holiday Inn. She also worked at the Ramada Inn in Minot for several years. Eileen moved to Orlando, FL where she was employed as an executive housekeeper with several Disney hotels for sixteen years. She held various positions on the Greater Florida Housekeeper's Association and received several awards and trips. Her number of years serving the Hospitality industry expanded close to 46 years. In 1998, Eileen's health required her to move back to Bismarck. She has been a resident of the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center since May 2007.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brian & Julene Gutknecht of Bismarck; one granddaughter, Kayla Gutknecht of Bismarck; three step-granddaughters in Arizona and one step-grandson in Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her husband (Herb), two sons (David & Bradley Gutknecht), her mother (Lucille Wood) and step-father (Rex Wood), and two step-brothers (Leon & Wayne Wood).
A special thanks to all of Eileen's nieces, nephews, relatives, and good friends for the caring actions and love you've shown. All of you were very important to her!!
