Obituary

Edward Orman, age 90 of Bismarck, formerly of Turtle Lake, ND, was called by his Heavenly Father on Father's Day, June 21 surrounded by his loving family in a Bismarck hospital.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, June 24 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake with Rev. Betty J. Stedman, officiating.

Interment will be at Turtle Lake Cemetery.

Public visitation will be from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM Tuesday at Goetz Funeral Home in Turtle Lake and will continue Wednesday, one hour prior to time of service at the church.

Edward was born July 18, 1918 to Gottlieb and Katherina (Wagner) Orman at the family farmstead east of Turtle Lake, ND. He was educated at the New Home #3 rural school. Following his school education, Ed joined his father in the farming operation and took over the family farm in 1944. The need for a new pair of shoes took Ed to the local department store where he met a helpful sales clerk named Frieda Hoff. They were married on Nov. 10, 1944 at the First Lutheran parsonage in Washburn. Ed & Frieda started their life together farming grain and raising cattle. They retired from farming in 1980. They then moved into Turtle Lake where they enjoyed many years of happy retirement. In the fall of 2008, Ed & Frieda moved to Valley View Assisted Living in Bismarck.

Ed enjoyed the farming lifestyle and took pride in a neat farmyard and a strong team of horses. He was a skilled carpenter and made everything from baby cradles to finishing basements. He became known as the official handyman of Turtle Lake. Ed believed in working hard and keeping busy. During their retirement years, Ed & Frieda logged many miles on Farmers Union bus trips. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and a good game of cards. His love of music was displayed in his encouragement of his children and grandchildren to learn to play the piano or other musical instrument. Ed was a strong Christian man who had a great love for God, for life, and for family.

Ed will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 64 years, Frieda of Bismarck; two sons, Gary (Linda) Orman of Jamestown, & Gene Orman of Chaska, MN; two daughters, Gail (Tim) Horner of Bismarck, & Gwen (Bob) Horner of Bismarck; 12 grandchildren, Mike (Connie) Orman, Nicole Schumacher, Chris (Crystal) Orman, Corey Orman, Sarah Orman, Natalie (Ryan) Koch, & Nathan, Nick, Kate, Rose, Emily, & Molly Horner; 6 great grandchildren, Taylor & Reese Orman, Kaitlyn Orman, Jacob, Carter, & Luke Schumacher.

Ed is greeted in heaven by his parents, his three sisters & brothers-in-law, Freda & Reinhold Fueller, Mary & Otto Fueller, Alma & Gust Krein; one brother & sister-in-law, John & Verna Orman; and his granddaughter Nicole's husband, Jason Schumacher.

The sale of Ed & Frieda's possessions on June 18, 2009 marked the end of an 105 year occupancy of a Orman family member residing in the Turtle Lake community. We miss you already, but know that your handy work on Earth is done.
