Duaine Schilling, 80, of Turtle Lake, ND, died on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the Turtle Lake Hospital. Funeral Service will be at Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 4:00-5:00PM with a prayer service at 5:00PM. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in the Turtle Lake Cemetery.

Duaine was born on May 26, 1945, to Jacob and Gladys (Rygh) Schilling. He grew up on the family farm north of Turtle Lake and attended country school. He worked as a custom combiner and later for Lindteigen and Zolar Construction companies.

He married the love of his life Darlene Ann Jorgenson on February 27, 1965, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Mercer. The couple made their home in Bismarck and later returned to the family farm for 61 years. Together they raised three children.

Duaine took great pride in farming and ranching. He was always available to lend a helping hand when needed. Duaine was known for a good laugh, a chuckle, a big smile, and best of all his big hugs. He also enjoyed “visitation time” at the local Cenex. For anyone who knew him they could spot him easily in a room by his infectious laugh and mischievous grin.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and later Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on the council. Duaine also served on the Hospital Association and Equity Elevators Board.

Duaine enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening, mowing lawn, watching old westerns, and having a cup of coffee while checking cows on the 4-wheeler. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Darlene, daughters, Doreen Carson, DeeAnn (Steve) Portra, son, Darnell (Sheila) Schilling, grandchildren, Christian Carson (special friend Kait Mulvaney), Matthew (Haley) Carson, Jared (Mandy) Portra, Jessica Portra (fiancé Kody Boyer), Mariah (Rhet) Mavity, Nathaniel Fulton, Sierra and Serena Schilling, great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Khloe Carson, Jackson and Avery Portra, and Baby Portra due anytime, brother, James (Bonnie) Schilling, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Duaine was preceded in death by his Parents, brother, Roger (Leatrice) Schilling, sister, Shirley (Leonard) Klain.
