He was born on February 5, 1942, in Bismarck, ND, to Thomas and Helen (Hagerott) Price. Doug grew up on the family ranch in Price, ND, where he developed a lifelong love for the land, animals, and the rhythms of rural life. His deep connection to nature and his animals was a constant throughout his life.
He graduated from Center High School, where he met the love of his life, Marlene Isaak. On August 12, 1962, Doug and Marlene were married, beginning a partnership that would endure for 62 years.
After attending Bismarck Junior College and North Dakota State University, Doug returned to his true calling—farming and ranching. Alongside his father, Thomas, and brothers, William and Donald, he helped expand the family's operations, establishing a vast expanse of flood-irrigated land along the Missouri River in Oliver County, ND. Doug took immense pride in his cattle herd and always had a loyal dog by his side.
In his later years, he found joy in raising elk and building two cabins from cottonwood trees harvested from his own land. The construction of these cabins was made even more special with the help of some very good friends, whose support and camaraderie made the cabins not only a labor of love but also a place where many cherished memories were created. Of the two cabins, one held a particularly special place in Doug's heart. It became a beloved gathering spot for family and friends, where bonds were strengthened, and joyful moments were shared.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Helen Price, and his five siblings: Dorothy (husbands Marvell and Albert, both deceased), William (wife Sharon, surviving), Donald (wife JoAnn, surviving), Grace (husband Kent, surviving), and Thomas (wife Nona, deceased).
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marlene, and their five children: Dawn Jones (Ron), Clark Price (Milissa), Lewis Price (Barbara), Clay Price (Ranie), and Trail Price (Kristin). Doug is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Additionally, Doug is survived by many nieces and nephews, several of whom worked side by side with him and his children to help build the farm and ranch that became the cornerstone of his legacy.
Doug's life was one of unwavering dedication to his family, his land, and the values he held dear. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
