Obituary

Dorothy D. Fahlgren, 101, of Bismarck, formerly of Washburn, ND, died July 22, 2017 at the Baptist Health Care Center in Bismarck.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, July 26 th at the Washburn United Methodist Church with Pastors Cory Thrall and Kayla (Wiese) Buckley, co-officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery, Washburn.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM Tuesday at Goetz Funeral Home in Washburn and on Wednesday, one hour prior to time of service at the church.

Dorothy was born November 21, 1915 at Washburn, ND, a daughter to John & Pauline (Meyer) Wiese. She attended school in Washburn and graduated from high school in 1934. Following her graduation, she worked in different offices at the McLean County Courthouse. In 1943, Dorothy started working at the Washburn Post Office, first as a clerk and later as the Assistant Postmaster. She resigned from the post office in 1947. She married Norman C. DuToit on July 16, 1941.   Norman was killed in action in World War II while serving in Italy. On April 3, 1947 she married Leonard Fahlgren and they made their home on a farm east of Washburn. Leonard died on June 25, 1992. Dorothy continued to make her home on the farm until moving to the Edgewood Vista in Bismarck in November 2009. Dorothy was a long-time member of the Washburn United Methodist Church and the Victor B. Wallin Legion Auxiliary, where she served as President for a short time. In her earlier years she was active with the Neighborly Homemakers Club. Dorothy loved her family first and foremost. She was very patriotic and was known for sending care packages overseas to her family members active in the military. Dorothy loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening and canning her produce. She loved reading, especially the daily newspaper, and keeping her friends at Edgewood Vista "well-informed" of current events.

Survivors include her children, Bill DuToit of Bismarck, Sheila (Lee) Monson of Cooperstown, ND, & Marla (Don) Miller of Aneta, ND; 8 grandchildren, Kristen (Jeff) Blees, Matthew (Lucinda) DuToit, Dave (Stacy) DuToit, Jason (Stephanie) Ringstad, Jeff (Lisa) Ringstad, Andrew (Brittany) Anundson, Angela (Stan) Kowalczyk, Azure (Aaron) Spanier; & 17 great grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Grobelbe of California; one brother, Jack (Alice) Wiese of Bismarck; and many nieces & nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by two husbands (Norman & Leonard), a daughter-in-law (Joanne DuToit), two sisters (Midge Whitlock & Bernie Londick), and one brother (Bill Wiese).
