Donald J. Ziegler, 71, Washburn, ND died November 19, 2022 at his residence under the care of his family and hospice. Cremation has taken place.  Burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 26, 2023 at the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.  The service will be livestreamed at the bottom of Don's obituary on this page.  THERE WILL BE A TIME OF LUNCH AND FELLOWSHIP FOLLOWING THE GRAVESIDE SERVICE AT "THE POST".

Don was born on March 14, 1951 in Devils Lake, ND, the son of George and Irma (Hanson) Ziegler.  He was raised and educated in Devils Lake where he graduated from high school in 1970.  Don served in the US Army during the Vietnam War.  Don was discharged from the US Army and began his career as a police officer.  He started as a police officer in Devils Lake, where he worked for 15 years. After that, he worked as a truck driver for 15 years.  He retired in 2000.  Don lived in Mandan for many years before moving to Washburn in 2015.

Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends.  Don's greatest accomplishment was assisting his granddaughter in her college education while studying abroad.

He is survived by his daughter, Audrey (Travis) Gieser of Washburn, ND; a granddaughter, Anna Ziegler; brothers: Bill Ziegler of New Rockford, ND, Roger Ziegler of Washburn, ND, Ray Ziegler of Bismarck, ND; sisters:  Lois Vetch of Des Moines, IA, Margie Ringling of Lake Andes, SD and Karen Olson of Bismarck, ND.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Martin and David; and a sister Betty Swartz.
