Dennis was born February 15, 1950 in Brown's Valley, MN to Merlin and Ruby (Wilkie) Van Hoorn, joining a brother and 2 sisters.

Dennis was raised in Wilmot, SD where he attended school.  He married Cheryl Anderson on July 27, 1968.  They lived in Wilmot where they started their family.  Four boys were born:  Curt, Craig, Keith and Kent.

Dennis worked as an electrician for his dad and later owned and operated a Texaco Station.  In 1973 Dennis went to work as a boilermaker where he worked for Big Stone Power Plant.  Later in 1973, they moved to Center, ND and in 1975, they moved to Washburn, ND where they made their home.

Dennis loved his family and was so proud of his 4 sons and the men they have become.  He always loved his job as a boilermaker in Local 647.  Dennis was a hard worker and believed it was important to do your job the best way you could.

Dennis loved to weld, ice fish and travel, but his favorite past time was flying his power parachute.  He got a big smile on his face even just talking about it.  He made some very good friends in their "Gypsy Tour" PPC group.

Dennis will be deeply missed by his wife, Cheryl; his sons:  Curt (Steph), Craig (Merridith), Keith (Miranda) and Kent (BreeAnne); grandchildren:  Jaden, Riley, Macy, Brody, Grady, McKenzie, Harper, Breckyn, Oaklyn, Kolter, Laken, and Liam; Great Grandchildren:  Briggs, Nora, Beckett and Lincoln; a sister, Vivene (James) and brother-in-law, Robert Schliesman and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Allen and a sister, Merlene.
