Dennis "Denny" J. Liebel, 69, Underwood, ND died April 29, 2019 at his home in Underwood, ND. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, May 4 at Augustana Lutheran Church, Underwood with Deacon Jodi Lorenz officiating. Burial will take place at Dennis' willow tree. Visitation will be held on Saturday for 1 hour prior to the services at the church.

Denny was born in Riverdale, ND, on June 23, 1949, the son of Ernest and Eleanor (Stadick) Liebel. He attended school in Underwood where he excelled in many sports. He graduated from the Underwood High School. Denny went on to attend Minot State University and was also a member of the Army National Guard.

Denny sold life insurance for a short time before he purchased and operated The Riviera Lounge in Minot. He ran the lounge for many years and then bought the Idle Hour in Burlington.

In 1981, Denny met his wife of 36 years, Gussie Samuelson. They were married on April 9, 1983 at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva, ND. Following their marriage, they moved to Underwood and purchased the Black Nugget Saloon. Denny and Gussie were very proud that they were the sole proprietors of the Black Nugget and continued to serve the community for over 35 years.

Denny proudly supported many local organizations and charities that came to him for assistance, through the business, personally or any way he could.

Denny was a very proud husband, father and grandfather. He had a large number of friends who were like family. He never missed an opportunity to be with his family or watch his children in their school events, activities or any success in their lives. He was an exceptional husband and father and will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Gussie (Samuelson) Liebel of Underwood; a daughter: Abby Liebel, of Bismarck; three sons: Denny II Liebel of Mandan, Samuel Liebel of Underwood and Aaron Liebel of Minot; his grandson: Emre; his sister: Ginnie of Arizona and many nieces, nephews and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Shirley Ann; a sister, Marilyn; a special nephew, Rich Liebel and grandchildren: Patience Liebel and Kage Alexander Liebel.
