Denice L. Johnson, age 63 of Washburn, ND died Monday, March 31, 2008 at his home.

Interment: St. John's Lutheran Cemetery – Washburn, ND;
Military Rites provided by the American Legion Victor B. Wallin Post #12
Visitation: 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM Thursday at Goetz Funeral Home – Washburn;
Friday, one hour prior to time of service at the church.

Denice Leon Johnson was born May 30, 1944 at Underwood, ND the son of Melvin & Margaret (Bettger) Johnson. He attended school in Sitka Township, Riverdale, Coleharbor, and Underwood, ND. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on October 7, 1965. Denice served overseas in Germany and was honorably discharged on September 21, 1967. Following his discharge, he attended trade school in Fargo, ND for two years. Denice was released from the U.S. Army Reserve in October 1971. He was united in marriage to Paulette Steinwand in 1971. They made their home in McClusky, ND and Libby, MT before returning to Washburn in 1974. Denice was employed as a machinist at Modern Machine Works of Bismarck for many years. He later worked as a heavy equipment operator for the McLean County Highway Department until his retirement in 2007. Denice enjoyed fixing old cars, woodcarving, carpentry, ironworks, and attending auction sales.
He is survived by one daughter, Brandy Schmidt of Washburn; two sons, Keith Johnson of Washburn, & Kevin (Lisa) Johnson of Sidney, MT; five grandchildren, Alesha & Donovan Schmidt, Edik Johnson, Bella Tryon, & Katelyn Johnson; four sisters, Janice (Charles) Berget of Libby, MT, Rebecca (Ron) Stevahn of Lincoln, ND, Elaine (Clay) Carr of Washburn, & Margo Johnson of Bismarck; one brother, Michael (Margaret) Johnson of Helena, MT; and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father (Melvin), his beloved Paulette, & one infant sister (Rebecca).
