Dean Flinn, age 72 of Salem, Oregon, formerly of Wilton, ND, died Friday, February 10, 2006 at the Hemet Valley Medical Center in Hemet, California.

Carroll Dean Flinn was born May 5, 1933 at Wilton, ND to DeWitt & Clara (Jevnagher) Flinn. He attended school in Wilton and graduated from Wilton High School in 1951. In January 1952, Dean enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged on November 28, 1955 after serving as an Electrician's Mate aboard two different naval destroyers and submarine. From 1956 to 1960, Dean worked numerous jobs at construction sites in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana. He married Margaret (Maggie) Brown on January 16, 1960 at Wilton, ND. The couple lived in Bismarck where Maggie worked for the First National Bank of Bismarck and Dean was employed with the North Dakota State Highway Department. In November 1960, their daughter Deanna was born. In May 1964, Dean and his family moved to Salem, Oregon. He returned to the electrical trade acquiring his license as a journeyman electrician and worked at different mills and plants in the Pacific Northwest. His wife Maggie passed away in September 1979. Dean continued to make his home in Salem, Oregon where he worked until retiring in 1998. He was very proud of his two grandchildren, granddaughter Jordan Ann Field who was born in 1988 and grandson Logan Dean Field born in 1996. He enjoyed his retirement years gardening, reading, home brewing, and traveling. He made many trips to North Dakota to visit family and help raise cattle . Dean is remembered for being a generous man who was always willing to help someone in need.
He is survived by his Daughter & Son-in-Law: Deanna & Tom Field of Olympia, WA; 2 Grandchildren: Jordan Ann Field & Logan Dean Field; 2 Sisters: Delores (Fred) Youssi of Salt Lake City, UT, & Nancy (Lynn) Taylor of Salt Lake City, UT; & several Nieces & Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife (Maggie), brother (Max Flinn), & sister (Evelyn McFadden).
A memorial service for Dean will be held from 3:00 - 5:00 PM Saturday, February 25 at the Virgil T. Golden Mortuary in Salem, OR.
