David C. Cooley, 79 of Underwood, ND died October 9, 2019 at his residence.  Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, October 21, 2019 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Underwood with Pastor Nathan Schieber officiating.  Interment will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery, rural Mandan, ND with military rites provided by the Mandan VFW and American Legion and the ND National Guard Honor Team.

David was born May 26, 1940 in St. Peter, MN the son of Jerry and Doris (Hauskins) Cooley. He was the 2 ^nd of six children. He attended country school and later attended school in Fairmont, MN. David served in the US Army in Germany from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1962. While in the service David obtained his GED. He was a member of the I.U.O.E local 49ers and worked as a heavy equipment operator. He retired in 2003. He married Jackie Lorentzen and they had a son Charles.

In his younger years, David drove semi over the road during the winter. He also had federal security clearance and hauled top secret government supplies. He married Karen "Susie" Triebwasser on May 25, 1990 in Washburn, ND. They resided in Underwood. David was an avid fisherman and also loved to hunt. He had two wishes this year, one to see his sister Cheryl and to go fishing one more time. He even bought a new fishing rod this spring.

David is survived by his wife, Karen "Susie" Cooley of Underwood; his son, Charles Cooley of Fairmont, MN; his sister, Cheryl Becker of Northrup, MN; his step daughters, Ronda (Charles) Giaridini of Mandan, ND and Pam (Shawn) Surface of Lincoln, ND; one step grandson; 7 step granddaughters; 13 step great grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dennis and Gary; two sisters, Kathy Spencer and Judy Spencer and a step daughter Michelle Johnson.
