Darvin Fischer, 80, Bismarck, ND formerly of Turtle Lake, ND passed away September 30, 2015 at Sanford Health, Bismarck of natural causes. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, October 5, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake. Officiating will be Pastor Sondra Krogstad and Pastor Randy Emgarten. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Darvin Frederick Fischer was born May 17, 1935, to Fred and Elizabeth (Singer) Fischer at Turtle Lake, ND. He was raised on a farm south of Mercer and graduated from Mercer High School in 1953. He attended Minot State Teachers College. He taught school for one year at a rural school in Koenig Township.
Darvin married Ella Vik on April 25, 1968, in Fairview, MT. He worked for Peavey Elevator Company in Selz, Mercer, Stanley, and Sidney, MT. They and daughter Twyla moved to Williston where Darvin managed the Hardy Salt Mine for many years. They then moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he worked for Akzo Nobel Mine for several years.
Upon retirement they moved to Turtle Lake. Darvin enjoyed being dad to Twyla and grandpa to Tyler and Tallon. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards, and having coffee with friends and neighbors. He was an avid follower of the Turtle Lake Mercer High School sports teams. He served on the Turtle Lake City Commission. He belonged to the Moose Lodge. Eventually Darvin and Ella moved to Bismarck to be closer to family and medical facilities. Through five years of dialysis and many other major physical setbacks, Darvin was blessed to have the loving care and support of his wife of 47 years.
Darvin is survived by his wife Ella; daughter Twyla Dawn Tharp (Jimmy Joe Philo) of Chandler, AZ; grandchildren Tyler Tharp of Williston, ND and Tallon Tharp of Bismarck; sisters Delma Kost of Martin, ND and Doris Fischer of McClusky, ND; brothers Wilbur (Anita) Fischer Warrensburg, MO, and Myron (Beverly) Fischer of Bismarck; step-brother Wilbert (Alvina) Fueller of Bismarck; step-sister-in-law Cinda Fueller of Post Falls, ID; step-brother-in-law Monte Zingg of Turtle Lake; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Darvin was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother Helen Fueller Fischer; brothers-in-law Emil Vietz and LeJune Kost; step-brothers Delvin Fueller and Marvin Fueller, and step-sister Lavina Zingg
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be given to the St. Alexius Dialysis Center or the Wounded Warrior Project.
