Darold Holznagel, age 79 of Breezy Point, MN, formerly of Washburn, ND, died Friday, January 29 at his home.
Funeral Services: 2:00 PM Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010;
First Lutheran Church – Washburn, ND;
Pastor Jeanine Kersey-Russell, officiating.
Interment: Riverview Cemetery – Washburn
Visitation: 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM Wednesday at First Lutheran Church.
Darold was born January 23, 1931 in Bismarck, ND to Erdman & Gertie (Haken) Holznagel. He attended the Conklin rural schools west of Washburn, ND. As a young adult, Darold was an amateur Golden Glove boxer. He received his pilot's license at a young age and enjoyed flying with his friend & instructor, Cliff Beeks. Darold married Beverly Ann Lahren on October 5, 1948. He & Bev lived in several locations while he worked as a heavy equipment operator & bridge builder. He owned and operated B&D Landscaping for a short time while living in the Brainerd Lakes area. Darold built the Pelican Lake Motel in Breezy Point, MN which he owned and operated for over 10 years. In retirement, Darold & Bev enjoyed traveling the country in their motorhome. He also enjoyed hunting deer and elk and watching sports on television. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
Those grateful to have shared in his life are his two daughters, Virginia Rittenour of Spring Lake Park, MN, & Renea (Quentin) Roggenbuck of Lauderdale, MN; three grandsons, Boyd Roggenbuck, Kyle Roggenbuck, & Chad (Cindy) Rittenour; one great-granddaughter, Windy; & one sister, Jeannette Neal of Bismarck.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife (Beverly), one brother (Leonard),
& one sister (Jean).
