Darlene DeGuero, 76, Washburn, ND, died April 1, 2015 in a Bismarck, ND hospital surrounded by her loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Thursday April 9, 2015 at St. Edwin's Catholic Church, Washburn. Officiating will be the Rev. Ken Phillips and Deacon Keith Due. Inurnment will be in the Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Darlene was born March 7, 1939 in Grafton, ND the daughter of Anton "Tony" and Mabel (Svir) Budish. She was raised and educated in Park River. Darlene married Celestine Novak in 1956 in Park River and later they made their home in Grafton. This union was blessed with the birth of two children, Colleen and Jeff. They owned and operated Cel's Drive-in in Grafton.
Darlene married Ray DeGuero in 1972 and they made their home in Rock Springs, WY. This union was blessed with the birth of a daughter, Jennifer. In the mid 1970's they moved to Washburn. Darlene was very active with her children's activities. She was also a cook at the Frontier in Underwood and later the Lewis and Clark Café in Washburn for many years.
Darlene was a fabulous cook and baker, who always had something made for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed canning beets, making salsa and dinners for family gatherings. Darlene will be remembered as being the head of the family, her advice and listening ear were always available. She waited for her daily phone calls from her children and if it was a day or two between calls, she would ask "did you break a finger".
Darlene was the best mom and grammy ever and will be greatly missed by her loved ones including her children, Colleen (Novak) Brazell of Baldwin, ND, Jeff (Tammy Leidholm) Novak of Hayward, WI, Jennifer (DeGuero)(Jason) Hunze of Minot, ND; grandchildren, Jason (Christina) Brazell, Bill (Cassandra) Brazell, Travis Novak, Joshua Novak, Justin (Stephanie) Novak, Shaelyn and Zachary Hunze and six great grandchildren; a sister Marilyn "Jacki" (Bill) Halldorson of Mountain, ND and several nieces and nephews.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Celestine Novak and Ray Deguero, an infant son and special friend Bill Poppe.
