Obituary

Conrad G. Olson, 97, of Minot, ND, died August 30, 2024 in a Minot Care Center.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at St, Olaf Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake, ND.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was born December 17, 1926, in Hannaford, ND, to Gertrude (Kalvik) and Conrad (Faugstad) Olson. Like the patriarchs of the Bible, Con "died at a good old age, an old man and full of years, and then he was gathered to his people".
On Conrad's first birthday, his father died.  His mother married Ole Vedo in 1930, and the family moved to the farm in Malcolm Township, McClean County ND.  Con attended country school in Malcom Township.  He also attended 2 years of high school in Garrison, ND.  As Con's stepfather was ailing, Con became responsible for the farm operation.  He eventually took over the farm operation, which was his expressed desire.
In 1970, Con married Inez Ewing.  Inez died July 20, 1980.   June 20, 1981, Con married Lucille Affeldt.  They were married until her death Sept 21, 2009.  These years were spent working and living on the farm.
On November 26, 2011, Conrad married Violet Swanson.  They made their home in Turtle Lake, ND.  In the fall of 2023, Con and Violet moved to Edgewood in Minot.  Violet died Sunday, August 25, 2024.
Conrad was a man of diverse interests.  He enjoyed his bowling hobby, having many trophies to show for his effort, even attending national bowling tournaments.  He was an avid newspaper reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles.  He was also a rugmaker, gifting many with his creations.  In summer and winter, you could find him fishing.  He loved to tour the countryside, especially after retirement, to see how the crops were coming along and to watch the harvest progressing.  He was musically inclined, playing the guitar and accordion, accompanied by his stepfather on the violin, his sister on the piano, and often a good neighbor accompanying with his violin.  In these later years, with his wife, Violet, on the piano or accordion, they entertained at the Senior Citizen Center.  He enjoyed a good game of cards and shooting pool, even in these last months.  He delivered meals on wheels and could be found driving the ditches on his 4-wheeler collecting cans.  He also enjoyed attending car races.  His life of Christian faith was expressed in his active membership at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Turtle Lake, having served on the church council in years past.  He was baptized at Union Lutheran Church, rural Hannaford, and confirmed at St. Olaf.
Conrad was also preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Ole Vedo, and his sisters and spouses, Clarice Foussard (Emil), Corrine Bauch (Marvin), and Cathryn Boger (Leo).
Conrad is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, stepchildren, step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
