Colin was raised in Delamere and graduated from Milnor High School in 1963. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, Seabees Division, and worked as an electrician while serving his country. He was honorably discharged in November 1967. On March 5, 1968, he married Melva Else and together they raised three children, Heidi, Holly, & Kevin. Their 30-year marriage ended in divorce. In 1970, Colin "Ole" attended the ND State School of Science and obtained his electrical degree. He worked at the missile site near Langdon, ND for several years until receiving a job offer from the Falkirk Mine near Underwood in 1976. The family relocated to Riverdale, ND where they resided for five years. Colin and his family then moved to Underwood where he lived until the time of his death. He worked at the Falkirk Mine as the Electrical Supervisor from 1976 until his retirement in 1999. In retirement, he worked several different jobs to keep himself busy.
Colin "Ole" was an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger years. He greatly enjoyed these activities with his son and many friends. He loved to golf and enjoyed taking golf trips with his partner Connie Radke. He was a marksman in the game of darts and rarely took a loss to opponents. "Ole" participated in many state dart tournaments and placed high in all of them. He truly enjoyed people and held an ability to make them smile with a "wisecrack" or good joke. He will be forever remembered for his vast knowledge, infectious smile, quick wit, and willingness to help others. His grandsons will greatly miss him attending their life events and holiday celebrations. They felt blessed anytime they got to spend time with Grandpa "Ole".
