Clara Gondringer, age 91 of Underwood, ND, formerly of Turtle Lake, died Friday, Sept. 2nd at the Prairieview Nursing Home in Underwood.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, Sept. 6th at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Turtle Lake with Rev. Frank J. Schuster as celebrant. Burial will be at the Turtle Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church with a prayer service to follow at 7:00 PM.
Clara was born August 8, 1920 near Butte, ND to Gust & Louise (Krause) Panko. She lived her childhood on the family farm and attended rural school in Byersville Township. Clara attended three years of high school in Butte, ND and her senior year in Velva. She graduated from Velva High School in 1940. Following high school, she worked at the San Haven Tuberculosis Sanitarium in Dunseith, ND for six months. In December 1941, she moved to California where she worked for one year before returning to North Dakota. She attended Minot State Teachers College for two summer terms and received a teaching certificate. Clara taught for two years at a rural school northwest of Turtle Lake. She married Bernard Gondringer on June 9th, 1946 in Turtle Lake. They made their home on a farm 7 ½ miles northwest of Turtle Lake for many years. In September 1996, she and Bernard moved to the Prairieview Nursing Home in Underwood. Her husband Bernard passed away in 1999.
Clara was a member of the St. Catherine's Altar Society, the Lake Nettie Homemakers Club, and the Turtle Lake 69ers Senior Citizens. She also served as a 4-H leader for the Lake Nettie 4-H Club for a number of years. She enjoyed gardening and reading. She also enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes.
She is survived by six children, Paul Gondringer of Turtle Lake, Donna (Art) Burger of Bedford, IN, Kathy Turner of Salt Lake City, UT, Tom Gondringer of Turtle Lake, Christine (Henry) McLaughlin of Bismarck, & Bill Gondringer of Grand Forks; five grandchildren, & 8 great grandchildren; one sister, Irene Carlson of Maxbass, ND; and many nieces & nephews.
Clara was preceded in death by her husband (Bernard), one daughter & son-in-law (Anita & Larry Schafer), one sister (Tina Crum), and six brothers (Walter, Raymond, Henry, William, Clarence, & Arnold Panko).
