Obituary

Cheryl Ann (Johnson) Wingerter, 77, formerly of Washburn, ND died May 28, 2020, at her home in Ridgefield, WA.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, July 27, 2020 at St Edwin's Catholic Church, Washburn with Fr. Patrick Cunningham officiating.  The family will greet friends and family one hour prior to the service on Monday.  Inurnment for both Cheryl and her husband, Roger, will be held immediately after the funeral mass at Riverview Cemetery, Washburn.

Cheryl was born November 10, 1942, to LJ "Chuck" and Alma (Krebsbach) Johnson.  She was raised and educated in Washburn; and went on to further her education at Mary College, now the University of Mary, Bismarck, and graduated with one of the first nursing classes at the school.  While growing up, friends remember her as a gal full of fun, with a sparkle, that no one else seemed to have.  She especially enjoyed the art and sport of cheerleading, as it allowed her to showcase her vivacious energy and talents.

She met her husband, Roger, while he was in the Washburn area custom combining.  He became the love of her life.  They were married at St Edwin's Catholic Church in Washburn on August 31, 1964.  The couple began their family adventure and eventually settled in the Pacific Northwest, after stops in Selfridge, (Roger's hometown) and Turtle Lake.  The couple's lives were enriched with the adoption of two children, Patrick and Paula.

Cheryl was a registered nurse for 35 years, serving in a variety of positions.  Her favorite area in the medical field was home health care, because she was able to become better acquainted with her patients and to administer to them on a more personal level.

Cheryl enjoyed any type of game or activity, from pinochle to belly dancing.  Roger and Cheryl loved to entertain, simply enjoying the company of family and friends.  Roger seemingly took the dominating role, but Cheryl always could wield her womanly power!  A dynamic duo indeed!  The couple wintered in Mesa and Trail Rider's Park for many years, enjoying the company of many new friends.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Patrick (Shareece) Wingerter and Paula (John) Torres; her grandchildren, Danielle (Dan) Duggins, Grace, Teyla, Myka; her great grandchildren, Aiden, Kamryn; her siblings, Dianne Wolf, Maureen (Ben) Kautzman, Kirby (Linda) Johnson, Wanda (Dwayne) Oster; her sister-in-law, JoAnn (Allen) Blotske.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, LJ "Chuck" and Alma Johnson; her husband, Roger Wingerter; her siblings, Kay (David) Schuler, Sister Donna Johnson, Lowell "Butch" Johnson and a grandson, Christopher Jennings; her sister-in-law, Janice (Danny) Kraft.
