Obituary

Cheryl Kost, age 65 of Washburn, ND passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 26 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck.

Funeral Services: 10:30 AM Thursday, October 1, 2009;
Washburn United Methodist Church;
Rev. Marvin Winstryg, officiating;

Interment: Riverview Cemetery – Washburn, ND

Visitation: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM Wednesday at Goetz Funeral Home in Washburn;
Thursday, one hour prior to time of service at the church.

Cheryl was born January 29, 1944 in Columbus, GA to Earl & Effie (Fountain) Wilhite. At the age of seven, her family moved to Nebraska where she attended elementary school. Her family moved to Bismarck for a short time before relocating to Wilton, ND where Cheryl graduated from high school in 1962. Following high school, she worked various jobs in Bismarck. Cheryl was united in marriage to James L. Kost on Feb. 28, 1965 in Washburn. They lived in the rural Washburn area for many years before moving into town in 1985. Cheryl was an artist and enjoyed painting many portraits and pictures. She taught painting classes in her home and to students at local schools. Cheryl was a founding member of the Washburn Art Association and a member of the local Flower Club. She was a member of the Washburn United Methodist Church and served on the U.M.W. funeral committee for several years. She also served as a Cub Scout leader and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Cheryl enjoyed traveling with her husband Jim, making many custom-combining trips and cooking for the work crew. She looked forward to traveling south during the winter months and greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Kost of Washburn; three children, Shannon (Lisa) Kost of Bismarck, Cindy (Terry) Walcker of Rawlins, WY, & Chondra Kraft of Washburn; six grandchildren, Allie & James Kost, Derick & Dalton Walcker, Cameron Von Bank, & Victoria Kraft; one half-sister, Barbara Hellinger of Acworth, GA; and one half-brother, Harvey Brashears of Anna, IL.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, step-father (Sidney), step-mother (Dorothy), and one half-brother (Sidney Brashears II).
