Charles "Chuck" Sheldon, 77, Mesa, AZ and Washburn, ND died May 19, 2022 at his residence in Mesa. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn. Interment will be held in the Riverview Cemetery, Washburn.
Charles S. Sheldon "Chuck" was born in Charlotte, North Carolina and lived at the North Dakota Children's Home for 6 months, which became one of the charities Chuck later supported. Chuck was adopted by Roger and Ann Sheldon and lived a wonderful life in North Dakota with his family.
Chuck graduated from Washburn High School. He attended Minot State University and was a member of Mu Sigma Tau fraternity. He received his Master's Degrees from Montana State University-Northern, one in Education and a second in Counseling. Chuck taught elementary education in Washburn, North Dakota for 7 years, then taught middle school and elementary school in Havre, Montana for 25 years. He then became an elementary school counselor. Chuck was a mentor to many, one of whom honored him when he was a commencement speaker.
There were many summer jobs over the years, his favorite was working on a ranch in the foothills of the Bearpaw Mountains where he had great memories. He loved to be the camp cook, to hunt, fish and best of all, socialize!
Chuck retired in 2000 after 32 years of teaching. On January 1, 2004, he moved to Mesa, Arizona to assist his cousin, Lloyd Sheldon. At that time, he reconnected with Betty Swanson in Mesa, a childhood friend. Chuck and Betty spent 18 special years together. Thus, he acquired two more sons, Brad and Kelly, a daughter-in-law, Megan and 5 grandchildren. Chuck has one son, Steve, who is special to him. He has 3 adult grandchildren in ND.
Chuck was very proud to be a Sheldon and loved the Sheldon farms in Washburn. He loved his combine (which really wasn't his) and he loved his land in the West. He even (falsely) claimed to be a farmer. Chuck loved kids and loved people.
Chuck was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Willnow. He is survived by his son, Steve; Betty and her family; his cousin, Brad (Cathy) Sheldon; brother-in-law, Art Willnow; his large Sheldon family and his family at Victory Lutheran Church in Mesa, AZ.
