Carolyn Rose (Stringer) Auck, 83, of Coleharbor, ND, died on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, in the CHI Garrison Memorial Hospital. Services for Carolyn will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2026, 1:00 pm, at St Paul's Lutheran Church, Riverdale ND, with Pastor Van Vechten Crane officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held in the Coleharbor Cemetery with fellowship to follow at the church. 

Carolyn was born on July 17, 1943, in Hartford, IN, the daughter of Roberet and Helen (Waller) Stringer. She lived her early years in Sanish, ND. Due to the Garrison Dam, Carolyn’s family moved, house and all, to New Town. After 7 years as the only child, Carolyn was joined by three younger siblings. It was an adjustment to share the attention, but she loved being an older sister. 

Their family moved to Underwood, ND right before the start of Carolyn’s senior year. There she met the love of her life, Lynn Auck. They were married for 61 years and raised 4 children in Coleharbor. Carolyn was an amazing mother to her own kids and to the kids in the town who loved spending time at the Auck house. 

As her children began reaching school age, Carolyn became a substitute and then full-time USPS Rural Letter Carrier - she was the second female full-time carrier in North Dakota. Her favorite activity was spending time with family, especially grandchildren. After retirement, Carolyn and Lynn spent winters in Yuma, AZ, enjoying a whole new culture and group of friends. Lynn passed in the fall of 2022. 

In October of 2024, Carolyn and her beloved dog, Sully, moved to assisted living at Edgewood on Dominion in Bismarck. Carolyn made many new friends, and Sully was the star attraction. 

Carolyn is survived by her children: Lori (Bob) Quintus of Bismarck, ND, Rob (Dawn) Auck of Fergus Falls, MN, Jamie (Lisa) Auck of Underwood, ND, Holli (Yancy) Schafer of Glencoe, MN, 15 grandchildren, 32½ great-grandchildren, and 1½ great-great-granddaughters. She is also survived by sisters Kathy Sayler of Palm Bay, FL and Carrie Olson of Mandan, ND and brother David Stringer of Duluth, MN. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her granddaughter, Ashley.

“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these carriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” …. Perhaps now Carolyn is delivering mail and hard bubble gum to the residents of heaven.
