Caroline Schlichenmayer, age 91 of Mandan, formerly of Turtle Lake, ND, passed away on August 19, 2010 at the Medcenter One Care Center off Collins in Mandan.
Funeral Services will be held 2:30 P.M. Saturday, Aug. 21st at the Turtle Lake Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Turtle Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to time of service at the church.
Caroline Catherine (Steinke) Schlichenmayer was born February 20, 1919 to John J. & Lydia (Walcker) Steinke at the Steinke homestead southeast of Garrison, ND. She attended public school in Garrison. In her teenage years, she worked as a hired girl (domestic) for a couple residences in Garrison. Caroline married Charles C. Schlichenmayer on June 8, 1937 at the John D. Schlichenmayer residence in Turtle Lake, ND. She was baptized on July 7, 1939 by Rev. Rosner at Brush Lake and became a member of the Turtle Lake Baptist Church. She raised four children, Wanda Lee (born Feb. 8, 1940), Jean Marie (born May 26, 1943), Darlene Jean (born December 17, 1945), and Paul Charles (born August 13, 1953). Caroline was a farmwife and homemaker. She and Charlie built three new homes in Turtle Lake. She served as office manager, bookkeeper, and marker reporter for Schlichenmayer Livestock Sales for many years. Caroline loved gardening and flowers. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years and served as flower chairman and custodian of the Turtle Lake Baptist Church. Caroline also served as chairman of the McLean County Cancer Society for two years.
She is survived by three children, Wanda Lee Behrens, Darlene J. Johnson, & Paul Schlichenmayer; three brothers, Johnny, Alvin, & Roy Steinke; two sisters, Esther Schmidt & Ruth Reinking; eight grandchildren, Lynette Lauer, Lisa Nauman, Darren Johnson, Michelle Burt, Danielle Levey, Jaimie Schlichenmayer, Jeremy Schlichenmayer, & Carol Kauk; eleven great-grandchildren, Trevor Enget, Michale Marie Kendall, Devon Lauer, Shane Lauer, Tucker Johnson, Leah Nauman, Kena Lauer, Desmond Pfleger, Owen Burt, Luke Burt, & baby Levey; three step-great grandchildren, Austin Enget, Caleb Schmutzler, & Garret Schmutzler.
Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter (Jean Marie), husband (Charles), two brothers (Albert & Herbert), & three sisters (Ida, Anna, Agnes, & Alma Jean).
