Carl L. Nelson, 85, Washburn, ND, died February 27, 2019 at the Garrison Memorial Hospital, Garrison, ND. A memorial service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, March 9, 2019 at First Lutheran Church in Washburn. Officiating will be the Rev. Erik Johnson. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Riverview Cemetery, Washburn.

Carl was born June 29, 1933 in Washburn the son of Ralph and Gladys (Carlson) Nelson. He attended school in Falkirk for one year and Conklin country school and school in Washburn where he graduated from high school in 1951. While in high school, Carl was a member of FFA, 4-H and enjoyed playing high school sports. Carl married Almira M. Wicklander on April 5, 1953 at the First Lutheran Church. Following their marriage they lived five mile west of Washburn. Carl lived and farmed on the family farm until poor health required him to enter the Turtle Lake Community Memorial Hospital in November 0f 2018. He later entered the Garrison Memorial Hospital, Garrison, ND.

He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, playing horseshoes and stock car racing at tracks in Underwood and Bismarck.

Carl is survived by his daughter Karla Nelson (James Kirst) of Rapid City, SD; his daughter-in-law, Deborah Nelson of Virginia, MN; 4 Grandchildren, Joshua Sims, Andrea Johnson, Laura Barlow, Kayla Trombetta; 9 great grandchildren, Hailey, Emily, Maycee, Avia, Zoe, Giana, Eva, Cason and Olivia; a brother, Morris Nelson of Washburn and many nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son, Jeff Nelson; a grandson, William Nelson; a sister, Joyce Fowler and a brother in infancy.
