Betty M. Christensen, 87, of Bismarck, formerly of Washburn, ND died May 2, 2014 in a Bismarck, ND hospital. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at First Lutheran Church in Washburn. Officiating will be the Rev. Erik Johnson. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Washburn. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn and will continue one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the church.

Betty M. Christensen was born on November 15, 1926, in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Charley and Lottie (Knox) Wheldon. Betty grew up in the Roseglen, ND area, attending grade school at Roseglen, high school at Ryder and Garrison. She graduated from Garrison High School in 1944. Following graduation, she worked at the AAA Office in Garrison. On January 1, 1945, she moved to Washburn and worked with the McLean County Sheriff's office. On March 24, 1949, she married Clarence Christensen in Washburn. They lived in Washburn until moving to Mandan in 1960. When Clarence retired, they moved to Bismarck. When Betty had her family raised, she enrolled what is now Bismarck State College until February of 1974 at which time she began working at Provident Life Insurance Company. She retired on January 1, 1990. Upon their retirement Clarence and Betty enjoyed traveling. Clarence died in February of 2000. Betty enjoyed dancing and visiting with family and friends.

Betty is survived by her son: Wayne, Bismarck, ND; daughter, Pat Christensen, Bismarck, ND; two grandchildren: Lacie Christensen, Lincoln, ND and Shawn (Laura) Christensen, Lincoln, ND; two great-grandchildren: Caylee and Breeya Christensen; sister-in-law, Marie Wheldon, Charlotte, NC and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2000, and one brother, Bob.
