Beth Evelyn (Lahren) McAdoo was born in Mandan, ND on July 2, 1921, the sixth of
twelve children born to Gertrude (Schleicher) Lahren and Henry G Lahren. When she
was 6 years old she moved with her family to a farm near Hensler, ND where she
attended school, graduating from Hensler High School in 1940. On November 22,
1940 she married Robert E McAdoo, with whom she shared 68 wonderful years, raising
their family, building their farm, dancing, playing cards and traveling…they were a team
in everything they did. After Bob's death in 2008, she found comfort and fellowship in
the staff and residents at Valley View Assisted Living facility.
Her greatest joys and accomplishments in life were her six children, raising them all to
be compassionate, happy and successful individuals with strong community and family
values that created a legacy passed on to three generations and counting. Beth took
on the role of raising and caring for her younger siblings at an early age when her
mother became frail. She became a wonderful cook, baker, and seamstress. This was
just the beginning of her amazing journey of care taking and giving back. Beth was
always ready to help friends and the community from new babies coming into the world
to being there with comfort, concern and service for community families, always putting
others a priority. Beth loved volunteer work, was a founding member of the Hensler
Homemakers, a 4-H leader and a member of numerous other clubs and organizations.
She also served on The Custer District Health Board and 37 years on the Oliver County
Social Services Board.
She will be dearly missed by her six children, Ron (Carol) of Overland Park, KS, Bonnie
of Broomfield, CO, David (Linda) of Bismarck, ND, Rob (BJ) of Bismarck, ND, Susan (Terry)
Rostvedt of Windsor, CO, and Lori (Jim) Leidholm of Erie, CO; ten grandchildren and
thirteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law,
Gretchen (Arnie) Schafer of Bismarck; two sisters-in-law, Betty Lahren of Livingston, MT,
and Jo McAdoo of Washburn; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents,
her mother and father-in-law, Minnie and James McAdoo;
six brothers, four sisters, numerous brothers and sisters-in-law,
and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Valley View Assisted Living and Sanford
Medical Facility, physician Dr Dendy and PA Michael Henke for their wonderful care. In
lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church, Washburn, ND or
the charity of your choice.
