Bertha Grueneich, age 83 of Washburn, ND, died Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at her home.

Interment: 1:30 PM Monday at the Washburn Baptist Cemetery in Washburn.
Visitation: 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM Monday at Evangel Temple.

Bertha was born May 12, 1922 at Garrison, ND, the daughter to John & Christina (Aldinger) Steinwand. She attended elementary and middle school in Garrison. She married John Grueneich Jr. on January 11, 1941 at Washburn, ND. The couple built a farmstead 3 miles north of Washburn where they raised 4 children. She enjoyed gardening and canning produce.
Bertha was involved in many aspects of the farming operation and her and John farmed together for 51 years. She is remembered for being an excellent seamstress, sewing clothes for her children and grandchildren, including wedding dresses and prom dresses. Bertha enjoyed traveling with her husband John to locations both domestically & abroad. John, her husband of 62 years, passed away May 5, 2003. Bertha continued to live at her home outside of Washburn until the time of her death.

She is survived by her Daughters: Carol (Ken) Willard of Seabrook, TX, & Ilene (Jim) Howard of Keewatin, MN; Sons: Gary (Deb) Grueneich of Bismarck, ND, & Scott (Carol) Grueneich of Albers, IL; Grandchildren: Allen (Michele) Brisack, Michael Brisack, Tammy Larson, Bryan Howard, Chad (Lori) Grueneich, Kari Grueneich, Brianne (Jesse) Hardon, Jason Grueneich, & Brandon Grueneich; Step-Grandchildren: Danny Franks, Brandon Thill, Dorise Regalado, Jason Willard, & Jerry Willard; 7 Great Grandchildren & 4 Step-Great Grandchildren; Sisters: Regina Engel of Garrison, ND, Emma Lynne of Letcher, SD, Ruth Mehlhoff of Flasher, ND; Brothers: Edward Steinwand of Larneb, KS, Alex (Doris) Steinwand of Garrison, ND, & Jake (Margie) Steinwand of Pasco, WA; 4 Sisters-in-Law: Frances Grueneich of Bismarck, ND, Martha Koenig of Bismarck, ND, Lorraine Grenz of Bismarck, ND, & Viona (Ruben) Schlichenmayer of Bismarck, ND; 1 Brother-in-Law: Walter Aman of Portland, OR.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (John), infant daughter (Donna Mae), 3 brothers (Alfred, John, & Fred Steinwand), 1 sister (Martha Steinwand), 1 son-in-law (Allen Brisack, Jr.), & 1 daughter-in-law (Patricia Grueneich).
