Art's early employment included underground coal mining and operating grain elevators at Coleharbor and Falkirk, ND. His construction career began at the Garrison Dam as a carpenter. His carpentry skills in preparing wooden forms for large concrete installations grew and led him to Supervisory responsibilities with many major projects and contracts in a variety of locations. They include the St. Lawrence Seaway in New York State, the South Saskatchewan River Dam, Oregon's Flaming Gorge fish ladder, a flood control project in the Los Angles vicinity, the underwater Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) of San Francisco, an ABM military installation at Langdon N.D. and the Boston subway system. He worked on Temporary Living Quarters (TLQ's) at the Minot Air Force Base. Art worked in the construction of the UPA-CPA Coal Creek Power Plant near Underwood, where he later became a Safety Director; retiring at the age of 65 from what is now Great River Energy. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and golf. He enjoyed involvement with projects benefiting his Church and the Underwood Cemetery. Art was always attentive and loving with his family.
