Arthur "Art" Bender, 93, formerly of Streeter and Washburn died November 6, 2017 at CHI St. Alexius, Bismarck. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Friday, November 10, 2017 at First Lutheran Church in Washburn, ND with Pastor Erik Johnson officiating. Interment will be held at 2:00 PM Friday in the Zion Cemetery, rural Streeter, ND. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM Thursday, November 9, 2017 at the Goetz Funeral Chapel in Washburn.

Arthur was born on October 30, 1924 on a farm SW of Streeter, ND, the son of Gottlieb and Katharina (Spitzer) Bender. He was raised in the Streeter area where he attended country school.

Art married Esther Moser on September 27, 1945 in Jamestown, ND. Following their marriage, they farmed for a short period of time. Art went to work for the Streeter Auto & Implement as a mechanic. In 1966, he formed a partnership called L & A Repair. He retired and they moved to Washburn to be near family. Art and Esther later moved to Bismarck. Art enjoyed playing the accordion and had his own dance band for many years. He also enjoyed doing word search puzzles and spending time with his family and friends. He was a longtime member of the Lions Club and a former member of the Eagles Club and was also a member of the United Church of Christ in Streeter.

He is survived by his wife Esther of Bismarck; a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence & Nicole Bender of Bismarck; his daughter and son-in-law, LeAnn & Rick Richard of Washburn; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one brother-in-law: Jerry (Kay) Moser of Wheatridge, CO

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Delphine; three sons, Glen, Larry and Lloyd and siblings, Edward, Emma, Ludwig, Ernestina, Bertha, Alvin and Helen.
